Alison - "Original"
|
|
This is a picture of my granddaughter Alison. This image has been converted to significantly reduce the size for the web. On a full colour monitor you would be hard pressed to see any difference from the original.
The origional image was scanned from a photograph that is 3inches x 4 inches (7.5cm x 10cm).

Alison as stitches.

On the left is Alison when the background has been removed, and the image converted to 138 by 175 stitches. This is BEFORE touch-up editing.
The number of colours necessary for Alison is a remarkably high 150. Usually 50 silks is sufficient for a good
likeness, however if I reduced the number of colours to 100, Alison's lips became the colour of her hair, and looked very odd.
If you look carefully you will see that the edges of Alison's hair has some purple
stitches on it, particularly on the fly-away piece on the
left. This is due to the background bleeding through, and is
just the sort of place that Tom will fix up for you.
The symbol map prints onto 2 full and 2 part sheets. It is
printed on 1/10" graph paper with the whole inch lines highlighted in green
and titled. It is very easy to read, and very clear so you can find your place easily.
Even with 150 different symbols, they are easy to tell apart.

The finished piece.

I would have liked to capture some of the symbol map to show
you, but the software we use prints it directly to the printer. Once it has been
scanned in again, it looks blurry and is hard to read!
This is how Alison came out!
